Menopausal Symptoms Revealed - What is Menopause?

If menopausal symptoms hit you and you are not aware of what is happening it can be more terrifying. I say that from personal experience because my mother told me nothing, absolutely nothing. Well other than calling it the curse of course. I guess it has been a taboo subject for so long that even her mother never talked about it.

Well let that cycle end here and let me reveal a few menopausal symptoms.

1. What is menopause?

Okay, when a ladies ovaries begin slowing down in the production of estrogen, and your friendly neighborhood periods cease for about a year you can say you are in the time of life called menopause. Funny how it can be such a pain and it even starts with the word 'men', how strange is that.

Menopausal symptoms are a natural process but for the most part control-able. Yes I said control-able, that is why it is best to be informed so that you can know in advance how to deal with menopause symptoms.

When estrogen levels start dropping, menopausal symptoms reveal themselves.

2. What are some of the menopausal symptoms?

Some women may experience none or the symptoms are so slight they are barely notices, while others may run into a boat load of symptoms from the ever so famous hot flashes to mood swings to night sweats.

Other menopausal symptoms may include irregular periods, and vaginal or urinary tract infections along with a dry vagina.

Did you know that it is estimated that about 75% of women report some troublesome symptoms during menopause, but the severity and frequency of symptoms actually varies from woman to woman.

3. Let’s talk about some of the most common menopausal symptoms.

* Irregular Bleeding : This is a time when a womans body may seem to be playing tricks on the owner. Irregular bleeding can occur up to menopause and in some cases, periods may be of a short duration, or last longer than usual. This bleeding may vary from light to heavy and the time between periods may also fluctuate.

* Hot flashes just seem to go hand in hand with menopause. To be sure you know what they are let me explain.

A HOT FLASH is a sudden and overwhelming feeling of intense heat which spreads from head to toe. For example: your face feels very red; you begin to sweat, and sometimes experience anxiety or irritability. It is uncomfortable at best; but once you understand the cause, you can deal with it. Hot flashes can last from seconds to minutes. Even though it is only minutes it may feel like an eternity, especially when you can't get your clothes off.

The good news about hot flashes is that they seem to wain after about the first two years of menopause. The bad news is that in rare cases the hot flashes don't seem to stop or even slow down. So it is best to keep in close contact with your doctor so you can both work on the problem, if it occurs.

* Vaginal dryness can also occur, as may itching or irritation, which can make sex a painful and less exciting event. Although few women experience serious problems with vaginal dryness and thinning right after menopause, both dryness and thinning continue to occur over time. Some doctors estimate that at least half of all women older than 60 years have some degree of vaginal dryness. Regular sexual intercourse can help to keep the vagina moist and toned.
