Pregnancy and Its Symptoms

By Jennifer Kelly

When a woman feels she may be pregnant, it's usually because of multiple things, but the biggest indication is a missed period. While this is a big factor, there are other symptoms you should look for. A woman can have her period and still be pregnant, so it's not a good idea to assume because you have your period you're not pregnant. A look at the other symptoms of pregnancy is below.

1.) You are incredibly tired. In the first trimester, pregnancy really takes a toll on a womans body. You are making a baby, so your body is taking all your energy and vitamins for the baby. You may notice a decrease in your energy levels, and be ready for bed at odd hours of the day.

2.) Your moods change. You may notice an increase in mood swings. Of course, this is also a symptom that your menstruation cycle is about to begin, so you can't use this as a solid foundation for confirming your pregnancy status either.

3.) You notice an increase in hunger. If you are hungrier than normal, or craving foods that you normally don't, this could be an indication of pregnancy. Again, this is also a symptom of pre-menstruation, so don't go off of this alone.

4.) An increase in urination. When you become pregnant, the baby pushes down on your bladder, so the feeling of needing to pee is more frequent. The more pregnant you get, the less room you have in your bladder, so the need to urinate is much more frequent, and the amount of urine is much less.

5.) The overall feeling that something is different. Women know their bodies, and they likely know when something is not normal for them.

6.) You have spouts of feeling nauseous. Morning sickness does not happen to everyone, so if you feel fine, do not assume you are not pregnant.

7.) Spotting or light bleeding. While this would indicate a beginning of a period, it would also indicate a pregnancy.

While every woman is different, some will have different symptoms, some will have all of the above, and some will have none that she is pregnant. If at any time you feel you may be pregnant, it is recommended you get a pregnancy test. While you can still have fake pregnancy results with a home test, the most concrete to tell if you are pregnant is by having a blood test done.
